KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A woman is dead and the man who police believe shot her is in critical condition in a domestic dispute in
Kalamazoo Thursday afternoon.
At 2:09 p.m. officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the 1400 block of Woodward Avenue for a report of a shooting.
When they arrived officers located a 47-year-old female suffering from gunshot wounds. Life-saving measures were immediately initiated, and she was transported to a local hospital, where she died of her injuries.
KDPS Friday morning identified the woman as Sariah Robinson of Kalamazoo.
Witnesses identified the suspect as a 55-year-old male who was known to the victim. Officers were able to locate the suspect in the 4500 block of Lilac Lane in the City of Kalamazoo; however, as they approached to make contact, he shot himself.
Officers rendered aid at the scene, and the suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. His name is also being withheld pending arraignment.
“This was a senseless and heartbreaking act of domestic violence that took the life of a mother—a woman whose loss will be deeply felt by her family and our community,” said KDPS Executive Lieutenant Robert Holdwick. “Our hearts go out to her loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
