PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Portage Public Schools officials say construction of their new Amberly Elementary School will begin in 2026 and the new school will open in the fall of 2028. The current Amberly will remain in operation onsite until construction is completed.
Construction of the new Angling Road School will begin in 2027 and open in the fall of 2029. During the construction of Angling Road, staff and students will use the former Haverhill Elementary School.
Voters passed a $132.4-million bond on November 4, 2025 that will allow the construction to move forward.
Also underway is the initial planning to remodel Moorsbridge Elementary and address the replacement of the district’s oldest building that houses early childhood education and Community High School. That building is over 70-years-old.
