PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – After district voters passed a $132.4 million bond earlier this month, Portage Public Schools officials say construction of the new Amberly Elementary School will begin in 2026 and the new school will open in the fall of 2028.
The current Amberly will remain in operation onsite until construction is completed.
Construction of the new Angling Road will begin in 2027 and open in the fall of 2029. During the construction of Angling Road, staff and students will use the
former Haverhill Elementary School.
“The district is in a great position to open three new elementary schools in three consecutive years starting with Woodland opening in 2027, Amberly in 2028, and
Angling Road in 2029. We are grateful to our community for its continued support,” said Assistant Superintendent of Operations Russ Gerbers.
School officials also say underway is the initial planning to remodel Moorsbridge Elementary and address the replacement of the district’s oldest building, which is over 70 years old, that houses early childhood education and the Community High School.
