KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Edison Academy hosted last night’s Kalamazoo Public Schools board meeting, one of two that Superintendent Darrin Slade says they plan to hold around the district this year.
Principal Julie McDonald says her teachers are trained in techniques that keep all students engaged and involved in what’s going on during lessons.
They call one of their strategies Capturing Kid’s Hearts.
This isn’t just a good idea, it’s a carefully mapped out program using Excel that they have to be trained to do properly.
McDonald says it not only boosts learning as their test results show, but it also improves behavior, attendance and teacher retention.
This is the start of their third year in their new building on Lake Street.
