KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The 2026 Kalamazoo city budget proposal is now available online, and city commissioners plan to hold a work session next Monday to receive a presentation and go through it.
Interim City Manager Patsy Moore says they plan a tight schedule after that to get it passed.
“The public hearing will be on the 15th and we will be looking to adopt the budget on January 5th so there are opportunities for your input into that process.”
The budget proposal, which was prepared and signed by former City Manager Jim Ritsema, calls for a nearly 2% increase in revenue for the general fund, despite a $1.2 million dollar cut in state revenue spending from Lansing.
According to Ritsema’s budget statement, the city will be able to cover the loss thanks to increased home valuations.
The millage rate will remain at 12-mills, thanks to The Foundation for Excellence.
