KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A pair of men have been found guilty this week in the shooting death of another man at the Fox Ridge Apartments in Kalamazoo in 2024.
30-year-old Charles Lee Weir was gunned down in broad daylight July 24, 2024 at the Fox Ridge Apartments in the 1300 block of Fox Ridge Drive.
The dual-jury trial involving Deyonte James Armstrong and Don’quay Jyshonne White began December 2, 2025 and spanned several days, with closing arguments this past Wednesday.
Later that day White was found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder, two counts of felony firearm, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. He is scheduled to be sentenced January 20, 2026.
Thursday Armstrong was also found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder, two counts of felony firearm, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 26.
Captain Danielle Guilds, head of the Criminal Investigations Division, said the convictions concluded a long and complex dual-jury process. “I want to personally thank Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Ben Norg, Honorable Judge Christine Morse, and both juries for their dedication and patience throughout this trial,” Guilds said. “Their commitment made this outcome possible and ensured that Mr. Weir’s loved ones can move forward knowing that justice was served.”
