KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The $40-million youth sports complex in Kalamazoo County is currently on hold as the city of Kalamazoo Zoning Board of Appeals wants more information on a variance request to clear trees from the area.
The developer asked for the variances into protected slopes and woodlands in order to be able to build the facility and the parking lot.
The 20-acre site is next to US-131 and north of West Main Street in the Westwood area.
Discover Kalamazoo says the complex will result in over 600 full and part-time jobs and have a nearly 49-million-dollar economic impact every year.
*A previous version of this story reported the Kalamazoo County board wanted the information. We have since learned it was the city of Kalamazoo’s Zoning Board of Appeals.
