CLIMAX TOWNSHIOP, MI (WTVB) – Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller now says the three people who died Sunday afternoon when a tree fell on their vehicle in Climax Township were children from Branch County.
An original press release from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office said the family was from Calhoun County, but Fuller corrected their address during a press conference Monday afternoon.
One of those killed was a two-year-old girl, along with her four-year-old brother and their eleven-year-old female cousin.
Fuller says the family was less than a mile from their destination when the large tree fell in the middle of their minivan. The siblings parents and a fourth child are hospitalized in stable condition.
He also said it appeared the family had no warning the tree was about to fall.
A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family. As of midday Tuesday, over $29,000 dollars has been raised from 441 donors.
