PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A group called Indivisible of Greater Kalamazoo says it will join activists across the country for a protest in Portage this Saturday.
They are asking people to gather on South Westnedge Avenue from 12:00-2:00 p.m. to take part in the national “Hands Off!” rally in what they say is day of action protesting recent actions taken by President Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
In a press release, the group says the street rally in the 6300 block of South Westnedge will include signs, chants, and a public demonstration “to raise awareness about what organizers describe as authoritarian overreach and the erosion of democratic norms.”
The group says the “Hands Off!” movement is a “coordinated, grassroots response to a series of controversial policy shifts and executive actions, including the shuttering of USAID, restrictions on press freedoms, and growing political influence exerted by corporate elites such as Elon Musk.”
Rallies are being planned across the nation, culminating in a major rally in Washington, D.C.
“Our democracy is not for sale, and it’s not up for dismantling,” said Ken Greschak, a spokesperson for Indivisible of Greater Kalamazoo. “We’re coming together—loudly and visibly—to say hands off our freedoms, our institutions, and our future.”
