LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Just days before Consumers Energy customers will see an increase in their monthly electric bills, the utility company is preparing to ask the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) to raise rates again.
The MPSC just approved an electric rate hike for Consumers Energy to collect an additional $153,809,000 in revenue from customers March 21. That rate increase will take effect on April 4 and is expected to increase monthly bills by 2.79%, or an increase of about $2.78 monthly for the typical residential customer using 500 kWh, according to the MPSC.
Last week Consumers returned to the MPSC and filed an intent to apply for another rate increase that would take effect on or after June 2, 2025. The rate increase amount was not disclosed in the filing to the MPSC.
