KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Heavy rain through the day Wednesday has led to flooded streets throughout Kalamazoo.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said as of 3:00 p.m. several streets were impassable.
KDPS and other city crews closed those streets, but there may be areas that are flooded which have not been taped or barreled off. Officials with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Services say they are actively monitoring water levels.
The following streets are closed due to flooding:
Howard – at Crosstown
Maple – at Crosstown
Crosstown – Park to Rose
Forest – Rose to Crosstown
Park Street – Crosstown to Den Adel (Center Lane Open)
Crosstown – Sheldon to Pitcher
Portage Creek levels continue to rise. It is expected that the following additional streets may be flooded and closed shortly:
Crosstown – Rose to John
Crosstown – John to Jasper
Vine – Crosstown to John
Jasper – Walnut to Crosstown
Dutton – Jasper to Portage
John Street – Lake to Crosstown
Burdick Street – Lake to Wall
Avoid the following:
Howard St between Merrill and Crosstown, Lake Street between Portage and Bank, S Westnedge and Vine, Kalamazoo and Westnedge, Cork and S Burdick, and Lake Forest Drive. The entire Crosstown area north and south of Crosstown between Maple and Vine should be avoided.
City officials say as always, do not attempt to travel through water as the depth may be unknown and a relatively low level of water will disable a vehicle.
