GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kent County’s first measles case since 2013 has health officials urging people to get vaccinated.
Dr. Andrew Jameson, infectious diseases physician with Trinity Health Michigan, says measles is highly contagious and can be spread to 18 susceptible people while COVID-19 at its worst would be spread to up to three people.
Kent County Health Department communicable disease supervisor Cathy Armstrong says the measles vaccine is “the best vaccine we have” and it is effective for someone’s entire life once they have received two doses.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says there are around 500 measles cases in 20 states now.
