PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A blaze in the woodshop at Portage Central High School was contained by a fire supression system, preventing further damage Saturday night.
Around 10:40 p.m., firefighters with the Portage Fire Division were called to a fire alarm activation at the school near South Westendge Avenue and East Centre Avenue.
Firefighters found smoke coming from the woodshop area. They put out the fire, but they credit the suspression system with limiting damage to the building and equipment.
Firefighters were on the scene for about two hours to clear out amoke and water. Texas Township and Life EMS assisted at the scene.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Portage fire officials say they don’t believe it’s suspicious at this point.
