DEARBORN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Has the roller coaster that is gas prices across Michigan stopped, or is this just a lull before the ride resumes as spring break week winds down?
This morning’s statewide average, as compiled by Triple A of Michigan, stood at $3.19 a gallon, six cents below the nationwide level, and three pennies less than yesterday.
That is down seven-cents from last week and 35-cents from a year ago at this time, but it’s still 15-cents more than on March 8th.
Adrienne Woodland with Triple A in Dearborn believes that fuel costs should level off soon.
“Hopefully, we’ll be complete with the transition from winter blend to summer blend, and once that happens, we’ll kind of stave off some of those sharp jumps we’ve been seeing,” says Woodland. She adds “prices should hopefully stabilize a little bit before we get to the big increases that we’re expecting to see ahead of Memorial Day.”
Locally, St. Joseph County has the lowest average price at $3.15 a gallon, followed by Kalamazoo County at $3.17, Van Buren and Cass counties at $3.21, Calhoun County at $3.23, and Barry County at $3.31.
