BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A driver sustained serious injuries after his car struck a semi-truck that was stopped in the road in Calhoun County’s Burlington Township.
At approximately 5:39 a.m. Tuesday Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene of the crash on 11 Mile Road near Q Drive South.
Their preliminary investigation shows the semi-truck experienced mechanical issues and became disabled, blocking both lanes of 11 Mile Road. A 79-year-old man from Three Rivers was traveling northbound on 11 Mile Road when his vehicle collided with the side of the stationary semi, resulting in the driver becoming pinned inside his vehicle.
Emergency crews from the Burlington and Union City Fire Departments extricated the driver, who sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Calhoun County Accident Reconstruction Team.
