ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan Gas Utilities and utility crews from across the Midwest continue working to restore service to approximately 5,200 customers in Allegan County after a natural gas transmission pipeline was damaged Wednesday.
The gas provider Thursday afternoon provided an update on the outage. They say the damage to the natural gas transmission pipeline stopped the flow of natural gas into MGU’s pipeline, causing the outage.
The transmission pipeline operator, ANR, is working to repair the damage to their pipeline. Due to the nature of the damage to ANR’s pipeline, service may not be fully restored for days.
To ensure service is safely restored, MGU says it must visit all homes and businesses affected by the outage to turn service off at their meters. More than 100 field workers, including crews from MGU and from out-of-state utilities We Energies, Wisconsin Public Service and Minnesota Energy Resources, will be working on that step today.
After repairs to the ANR pipeline are completed and natural gas is flowing back into MGU’s pipeline, MGU and other Midwest utility crews will again visit each customer’s property to turn service back on at their meter. These crews also will relight all affected customers’ natural gas appliances to ensure they are working safely.
The outage is affecting about 5,200 households in the Fennville, Douglas, and Saugatuck areas.
