ST. LOUIS, MO (WKZO AM/FM) – The Western Michigan University Broncos will play one more hockey game this season. They won in the Frozen Four in St. Louis Thursday night, 3-2 in double overtime, beating conference rival and defending national champion Denver University.
Western scored the first two goals of the game in the second period, and Denver tied it up late in the third to send the game into overtime.
WMU will play for the national championship Saturday night.
It was the first time the Broncos had ever advanced to the NCAA Frozen Four. Western Michigan won the National Collegiate Hockey Conference this season and were the #1 team in the nation in the USA Hockey Poll on March 31, beating their previous high of being ranked #3 in the country, also this season.
