KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Metro officials are touting the success of Metro Link, their flexible on-demand public transit service, as it celebrates its one-year anniversary this month,
Launched in partnership between Metro and TransitTech provider Via, Metro Link has provided 45,000 rides since its launch in April 2024. As a result of its popularity, Metro secured further funding through a competitive Michigan Department of Transportation grant to increase Metro Link service zones in January.
Metro Link uses Via’s advanced technology to group riders heading in the same direction into shared rides, reducing wait times while keeping the service affordable and efficient.
Metro Executive Director Sean McBride says “Metro Link has been an important addition to our public transit services,” with the $1.50 or less shared-ride service provides affordable and convenient community access both within the microtransit zones and in making connections to the Metro bus network.
