KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is investigating a homicide
following the fatal shooting of a Kalamazoo resident Saturday night in the 400 block of East North Street.
At approximately 10:58 p.m., Public Safety Officers were dispatched to the area for a report of an altercation and large crowd, estimated at 200–250 people, that had gathered outside a business. While officers were on scene speaking with staff, a single gunshot
was heard.
KDPS says officers located a 27-year-old male victim at the front entrance of the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest and immediately began CPR.
Due to the size of the crowd and the difficulty of securing the area, they requested additional assistance. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, Portage Department of Public
Safety, Kalamazoo Township Police, and Michigan State Police responded to help manage the scene and allow first responders to safely render aid.
The victim, was transported to a local area hospital by LIFE Ambulance and was pronounced deceased at 11:39 p.m.
Police say Montine Wiley was working as a security guard at the private event was shot in the chest.
