SPRINGFIELD, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 43-year-old Springfield man was killed Saturday evening after being struck by a train.
At 7:13 p.m., the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the area of North 20th Street and Avenue A in the City of Springfield following a report of a pedestrian struck by a train.
When they arrived, deputies made contact with the engineer and conductor operating the Canadian National Railway train at the time of the incident. Deputies began canvassing the area along the railroad tracks and located a male victim beneath the train.
Deputies say life-saving measures were initiated, but the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name is being withheld pending family notification.
The Calhoun County Accident Reconstruction Team and the Calhoun Area Multi-Jurisdictional Evidence Team assisted with processing the scene.
CN was contacted and provided additional resources following the investigation to move the train from the area.
