KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A National Champions Rally is being held tonight at 6:00 p.m. at University Arena in Kalamazoo for the Western Michigan University hockey team.
The Broncos won their first ever national title in hockey Saturday night in St. Louis, beating Boston University 6-to-2 and was welcomed home to Lawson Arena yesterday afternoon by hundreds of fans.
WMU alum Chuck Dietz was hoarse when he joined with hundreds of other Bronco fans celebrating the NCAA national championship in hockey Sunday.
Western Michigan University athletic director Dan Bartholomae says the national championship inspires pride in the university.
The last, and until Saturday only, national championship won by Western Michigan University was in men’s cross country in 1965.
