PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – As the first anniversary of last year’s spring tornado approaches, local communities are still working on restoration efforts and making cash available from a state tornado relief fund to victims of the storm.
The Portage City Council will be asked Tuesday to give $450,000 to “After the Storm,” a non-profit that has been working in the community since the tornado struck to get relief money and other assistance to victims. An additional $150,000 will be set aside to restore trees on city property.
Few details have been offered on a $1-million allocation to Portage to help businesses recover, only that they plan to have it all distributed by May.
Also Tuesday, the Portage City Council will get the first look at City Manager Pat McGinnis’ City Budget Proposal for their next fiscal year.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m.
