PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Portage home suffered approximately $1,000,000 in fire and water damage a blaze early Thursday morning.
At 5:48 a.m. the Portage Department of Public Safety Fire Division was dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 9000 block of East Shore Drive. Firefighters from Station 12-3 arrived to find heavy fire involvement at the front entryway of the home.
They says all occupants had got safely out of the house before firefighters arrived.
Fire crews were able to bring the blaze under control within 40 minutes. The house did suffer a partial roof collapse.
In total, five fire apparatus and 17 firefighters responded to the scene. Mutual aid was provided by Pavilion Township Fire Department, while station coverage was maintained by off-duty Portage firefighters as well as crews from Texas Township and Oshtemo Township.
No injuries were reported by the residents, but one firefighter was evaluated on scene for a minor injury.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Portage Fire Marshal.
