ALLEGAN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The city of Allegan will keep its police force.
Officials had been presented with the idea of dissolving the department at its April 14 meeting in an attempt to find money to repair roads, replace lead water service lines and more.
City Manager Joel Dye estimated eliminating the police department and contracting coverage to the sheriff’s department would save $750,000 the first year and $500,000 annually after that.
Dye says the community reaction against the move was “loud and clear” and says cutting the police department is no longer an option.
