STOCKHOLM (Reuters) – Sweden’s Liberal Party leader Johan Pehrson will resign from his post, a party spokesperson said on Monday.
It was not immediately clear if Pehrson would remain Sweden’s minister of education in the current minority coalition government, led by the Moderate Party and backed by the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats.
The Liberal Party has seen its support slip during the government’s term of office, registering just 2.8% in an opinion poll for public broadcaster SVT earlier this month.
The party got 4.6% of the vote in the last general election in 2022.
Sweden will go to the polls again in September next year with the opposition Social Democrats currently the biggest party.
