HOUSTON (Reuters) -Three people were killed and two others injured in an accident at an LNG plant under construction in Texas on Tuesday, according to the lead contractor, Bechtel.
The fatal incident occurred at Sempra’s Port Arthur LNG construction site, according to Bechtel.
The five men were working on a scaffolding just before 2 a.m. when the incident occurred, Sempra said .
“Bechtel has suspended work on the site while the incident is investigated,” Sempra added on Tuesday.
Sempra’s Port Arthur Phase 1 export project is a 13 million tonnes per annum LNG facility in Texas with the first LNG expected in 2027.
“All work at the site was immediately stopped following the incident, and we have sent all craft professionals home early to be with their families during this difficult time,” Bechtel said .
The two survivors who were injured have been released from the hospital, Sempra said in a statement.
