KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools have begun an investigation into a security incident that knocked out their internet and e-mail access on Wednesday.
They have engaged a third-party information technology firm to conduct the investigation to determine the nature and scope of the outage.
They say they have no evidence yet to suggest it was a targeted attack on the Kalamazoo Schools, but the investigation is ongoing.
Superintendent Dr. Darrin Slade says to protect the integrity of the probe, they are refraining from sharing additional information about the nature of the incident, or the systems that are impacted currently.
They say they won’t restore systems until they are confident they can bring them back online safely.
In the meantime, school remains open and they say in a letter sent to parents and staff last evening that “teaching and learning is occurring. If you have any questions about what is happening in your child’s classroom or school, please contact your child’s teacher or principal.”
For now, that will have to be done by phone, in person, or maybe snail mail.
