KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo is celebrating Bike Month in May. The city has a full calendar of bike-friendly events, activities, and community rides for everyone from seasoned cyclists to first-time riders.
Events will be held for all ages and skill levels, from kids that are just learning how to ride to dedicated cyclists who want to connect with other riders.
Deputy City Manager Rebakah Kik says the city supports Bike Month “because biking is a powerful tool for personal and community well-being.” She adds it promotes active living, cuts emissions, and helps make neighborhoods more livable.
Whether riding for fun, commuting to work, or just learning the rules of the road, there’s something for everyone during Kalamazoo’s Bike Month celebration.
With group rides, safety education, family-friendly events, and commuter-focused events, Bike Month is a chance to explore biking as a fun, healthy, and sustainable way to get around.
The first event is National Ride a Bike Day on Sunday, May 4. Two events are scheduled for Saturday, May 10: Bikes in the Zoo from noon to 4 p.m. at the Kalamazoo Mall; and Mayors’ Ride at 10 a.m. at the Eliason Nature Reserve.
