GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The second-degree murder trial of former Grand Rapids police officer Christopher Schurr has ended in a mistrial.
He was charged with killing Patrick Lyoya in a traffic stop in April 2022.
Judge Christina Mims verified the jury was unable to reach a verdict.
It is now up to the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office if Prosecutor Chris Becker wants to charge Schurr again.
Schurr was fired after he was charged.
He and Lyoya were fighting over his Taser during the traffic stop.
Lyoya was shot in the back of his head.
The entire incident was captured on Schurr’s body camera and the dash camera from his cruiser.
