PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The city of Portage has another $100,000 for work to recover from last May’s EF-2 tornado.
The Consumers Energy Foundation gave the city a $50,000 check last evening, the Portage Parks Foundation matched it, and City Manager Pat McGinnis was pleased.
The gift will be used to plant hundreds of trees.
Portage Mayor Patricia Randall says the tornado wiped out thousands of trees in the city.
The state has provided three-million-dollars in disaster relief, but the Federal Emergency Management Agency denied the request for a major disaster declaration.
