HOWARD TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Cass County Animal Control Officers have seized over 220 animals, after executing a search warrant for suspected animal neglect and cruelty.
The animals included dogs, ducks, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, doves, frogs, gerbils, fish, a crawfish, and a snapping turtle. Authorities say all the animals were taken to a safe location and provided any necessary medical treatment and care.
The search was conducted around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at a property in the 2500 block of Lilac Avenue in Cass County’s Howard Township.
According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect’s name is being withheld pending charges and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the case or any other case of animal neglect or cruelty is asked to call Cass County Animal Control at (269)445-3701.
Assisting agencies with the investigation were the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Berrien County Animal Control, and the Cass County Facilities Department.
