BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 70-year-old Battle Creek man was killed in a vehicle-bicycle accident in the Urbandale neighborhood, late Sunday.
Battle Creek Police responded to tye accident in the area of Michigan Avenue and North Mason Avenue around 11:20 p.m. When they arrival, officers located the 70-year-old Battle Creek man in the roadway.
With assistance from the Battle Creek Fire Department’s Engine 5, Rescue 2, and Car 3, as well as LifeCare Ambulance, live-saving measures were attempted on the victim. Despite these attempts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police quickly were able to learn that the vehicle that had struck the bicyclist had fled the scene.
While police were conducting a search for the vehicle, the suspect called the Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch and reported the earlier accident. The suspect was then located, with the vehicle, by officers.
The suspect was identified as a 24-year-old Kalamazoo woman. She is currently lodged at the Calhoun County Jail on charges related to the accident.
While the investigation into the fatal accident is still ongoing, both alcohol and marijuana use are believed to be contributing factors.
