KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Some local homes and businesses remain without power this morning, five days after last Thursday’s severe storms blew through Kalamazoo County.
Kalamazoo utilities director James Baker says despite losing power to 20 water pumping and 15 sewage lift stations, they have been able to maintain water pressure throughout the storm and its aftermath.
Baker says right now, city crews are addressing the hundreds of reports of trees and debris blocking roads and right of ways.
He says beginning next Tuesday, crews will begin picking up fallen branches left along the curb lawn by homeowners. That could take weeks to complete.
By Tuesday, they should have a schedule of pick-ups posted on their website.
Baker says they have gotten assistance from city crews from Grand Rapids and hired some private contractors to do some of the cleanup work.
