KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Another new affordable housing project could be going up on the southside of downtown Kalamazoo someday.
Last night local developer Jamauri Bogan asked to have a 1.3 acre property near Bronson Hospital, including six parcels at Burdick and Vine, rezoned for multi-family housing.
Bogan says he has plans for the 80 unit building he is calling the “B on Burdick.”
It could take some time to work out the rest of the details to finance, design and build the project
Mayor Dave Anderson noted it’s just in the beginning stages and thanked Bogan for embarking on the effort.
Bogan says plans for now include commercial space and a daycare center on the ground floor and residential space in the top four stories.
Bogan has already received approval to build in the Historic District. Rezoning is step two. Still ahead, securing all the plans, approvals, permits, loans, grants, tax breaks and other assistance needed to build affordable housing.
Commissioners accepted the request and will take up the rezoning application at their first meeting in June.
