KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – 25-year-old Jordan Salter of Kalamazoo is charged with violating Michigan’s safe storage law.
Salter was arraigned Wednesday in 8th District Court in Kalamazoo.
His 12-year-old sister, Mariska Brown, was shot in the head and injured two months ago and was hospitalized.
Salter was not home when the shooting happened and told WWMT-TV that while he owned the shotgun that was used, it was not loaded. The gun, however, was not locked up.
Brown was shot by a 16-year-old boy who Salter says was not supposed to be at the home. He says the boy put the shell in the gun and pulled the trigger.
Salter has a probable cause hearing scheduled for May 29, and a preliminary examination June 5.
