KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Rotary Club will be hosting its annual Memorial Day Celebration Monday, honoring the men and women who gave their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
Rotary members say the day will begin with a patriotic parade at 10:00 a.m., stepping off in downtown Kalamazoo along Michigan Avenue and concluding at Riverside Cemetery, located at 1015 Gull Road, Kalamazoo.
This year’s keynote speaker is U.S. Army Major (Ret.) Brian Webb, the Veteran Liaison for the State of Michigan and project lead for Walking with Warriors. They say Major Webb will speak on the theme, “All Gave Some, Some Gave All”, emphasizing the depth of sacrifice service members make to protect the freedoms we cherish.
Additional highlights of the ceremony include:
• A powerful performance of the National Anthem by local vocalist Grace Kalafut.
• A reading of the names of local fallen soldiers, honoring their legacy and ultimate sacrifice.
• A presentation by the U.S. Marine Corps Color Guard.
“We welcome families, veterans, and community members to join us in this day of remembrance,” said Bruce Justin, Memorial Day Liaison for the Kalamazoo Rotary Club. “This is a time to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to reflect on the cost of the freedoms we enjoy.”
