KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – An 18-year-old from Battle Creek has been bound over to Kalamazoo County Circuit Court to face trial in the April 12 shooting death of security guard Montine Wiley at a party at a club on East North Street in Kalamazoo.
Kaiden Tanner Cole faces charges of Open Murder charge, as well as Felony Firearm and Carrying a Concealed Weapon charges.
Two others have also been charged in connection with the shooting death.
Wiley was working as a security guard during a large event at a business in the 400 block of East North Street when an altercation occurred involving a patron attempting to enter the venue. During that confrontation, Wiley was fatally shot. The incident took place shortly before 11:00 p.m.
At Cole’s District Court preliminary examination last week, Wiley’s father, Montine Wiley Sr. tried to jump over a barrier in the courtroom, disrupting the hearing. He made it a few feet from Cole, who was seated in shackles.
Wiley Sr. had been at the scene of the murder the night it happened, working with his son doing private security.
