KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The search for a new Kalamazoo city manager could take a step forward tonight.
City commissioners will get a look at the nine executive search firms that qualified to submit a bid for the job. A commission subcommittee has reviewed their bids and ranked them, with firms from Texas, Ohio and California finishing with the most points. A couple of firms with experience searching in Michigan submitted bids but ranked on the low side.
A few commissioners expressed interest in letting their own Human Services Department do the search, but the best practice is to hire a firm that does this kind of work every day, and doesn’t just accept applications, but also does recruiting.
Current Kalamazoo City Manager Jim Ritsema says he plans to retire mid-November.
