PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB/WNWN) – Fire destroyed a grocery store in Calhoun County’s Pennfield Township over the weekend.
Fire crews from multiple agencies spent over ten hours battling the blaze at Bailey Park Thriftway Saturday night into early Sunday morning.
Fire officials say efforts to extinguish the blaze were hampered because a new roof had been placed over the old roof and the fire became caught between the two.
Bailey Park Thriftway had been in that same location for 70 years after first opening in 1955.
The Calhoun County Sheriffs Department is investigating how the fire started. Sso far their has been no estimate on the dollar amount of the loss and no injuries were reported.
