KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo County is accepting bids on the latest round of contracts to build affordable housing projects and to provide residential services.
Housing director Mary Balkema says home costs are rising faster than wages in Kalamazoo County, while developers face rising construction costs, interest rates, and lengthy permitting processes.
Balkema says $2.8 million from the “Homes for All” housing millage is now open for bids.
Since the fund was approved by voters in 2020, she says the millage has supported the addition of 1,400 housing units.
Funds will be allocated for everything from subsidies for construction of rental units, to home repairs and support services like down payment assistance and disability accommodations, and even unique and innovative housing-related projects.
Full details are available on Kalamazoo County’s housing website.
