KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County board is mounting a rescue effort to save a housing project for recovering substance abusers that is now in jeopardy due to White House cuts.
The 48-unit Kal Recovery Project, which has been in the works for years, may have to be scuttled if they don’t reallocate two-million-dollars from the opioid settlement fund.
Board chair Jen Strebs says she is all for the proposal.
Board vice chair John Taylor says he will only approve a request if some provision is included that that money be “clawed-back” to the opioid fund if other revenue is found, or the grant comes through.
Board members authorized county staff to negotiate the arrangements and bring back a formal proposal at a future meeting.
