KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – State Representative Matt Longjohn of Texas Township and two other lawmakers are proposing legislation that they say will curb the abuses of the gun industry.
HB 4478 and 4479, introduced by Representative. Morgan Foreman and Longjohn would ban “ghost guns.” Those firearms lack serial numbers, and the lawmakers say they can be purchased over the internet with no background check.
“No one has any legitimate need for a ghost gun,” said Rep. Longjohn, “These dangerous weapons can’t be traced by law enforcement. Why would we ever allow someone to have a weapon that can’t be traced if used in a crime? This makes our communities more dangerous and law enforcement’s job harder.”
15 other states have ghost gun laws.
Longjohn and Foreman were joined at a press conference in Lansing Wednesday by Representative Kara Hope, who is pushing a new proposal to regulate gun dealers, which would revoke their sales license for violations like selling to gun traffickers.
