GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WTVB)- Canadian wildfire smoke is creating hazardous air quality in parts of the northern U.S. Air quality alerts are being posted from Nebraska to Michigan, where the U.S. is downwind from dozens of wildfires still burning in the provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
Some parts of Minnesota recorded the highest levels of unhealthy air on Tuesday, where the skies had turned gray from wildfire smoke. Minneapolis had the most unhealthy air of any major city in the U.S., though the worst air overall was in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Forecasters say the smoke should clear up today and Thursday, but could return by Friday.
