KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Today is Gun Violence Awareness Day and local groups are asking that residents wear orange today to remember the victims of shootings.
Rick Omilian with Moms Demand Change says many groups, agencies, individuals and local governments have been working together to reduce gun violence and its having an impact, and that work needs to continue.
He says Wear Orange Day is part of that effort.
Marty Ulmer with the group says this weekend they will be handing information, swag and other items at the biggest event this weekend in Kalamazoo.
Gun crimes fell by 30% last year in Kalamazoo and that trend continues this year, at least so far, but summer is always the worst time of the year for gun violence.
