FBI arrests second University Of Michigan scholar from China in smuggling investigation

ANN ARBOR, MI (WTVB) – A second Chinese scholar at the University of Michigan has been arrested by the FBI as they investigate illegal smuggling of biological material to the U.S.

The woman is charged with smuggling and lying to federal agents about packages she sent to the university’s Professor Laboratories from September 2024 to March 2025.

Interim U.S. Attorney Jerome Gorgon says the allegations are “part of an alarming pattern that threatens our security.”
