KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Another clean-up project is planned for this Saturday at a Kalamazoo cemetery.
The Friends of Kalamazoo Historic Cemeteries will be hosting a preservation project at the Mountain Home Cemetery at 1402 West Main Street beginning at 9:30am.
The group has been working with the City of Kalamazoo to preserve, restore and conserve the city’s historic cemeteries and has an ambitious schedule planned for preservation projects in Kalamazoo’s Riverside and Mountain Home Cemeteries this summer. They will be cleaning and preserving gravestones on the second Saturday of each month this summer, supplying all cleaning tools, supplies, and training for volunteers.
July 12 the focus will be on Riverside Cemetery at 1015 Gull Road, working in the oldest sections of the cemetery beginning at 9:30 a.m. Mountain Home Cemetery will be the site of the August 9 preservation event, again beginning at 9:30 a.m.
The events are open to the public.
Mountain Home Cemetery was established in 1849 and Riverside Cemetery established in 1866.
