KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – 25-year-old Shyann Sanchez has been arraigned on unlawful imprisonment, child abandonment, and unlawful driving away a motor vehicle.
The Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office accuses her of stealing a car with an eight-month-old child in the backseat this week.
She is also charged with assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer.
Sanchez faces up to 15-years in prison if found guilty.
Her bond was set at $350,000 and she remains in the Kalamazoo County Jail.
Sanchez allegedly stole a 2012 Audi Q7 in Portage Tuesday morning from the child’s mother after visiting a friend in Portage the night before.
Portage Public Safety says they are trying to determine if the motivation was the car, the child, or a combination of the two.
Sanchez was arrested about an hour later at a motel in Kalamazoo, about six blocks from where she abandoned the car and the child.
She is due in court for a probable cause hearing on all four charges on June 18, followed by a preliminary examination on June 26.
