KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Major League Baseball and Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation will hold an opportunity for nearly 150 Kalamazoo-area kids to have a “PLAY BALL” event at Kalamazoo Central High School on Wednesday.
The event starts at 11 a.m. and will feature kids from the Turn 2 Foundation’s Jeter’s Leaders program that aims to empower high school-age students through college preparation support, leadership development, and social change projects as guest instructors.
Turn 2 Foundation president Sharlee Jeter and MLB vice president of baseball and softball development David James will also be on hand as special guests.
The introductory-level baseball and softball activities at this event are meant to encourage greater accessibility to the sport, while teaching life lessons and demonstrating the variety of ways in which the game can be played in almost any setting.
This specific effort is a continuation of MLB’s broader “PLAY BALL” initiative.
All participants will receive a free bat and ball set for play at home in addition to a commemorative “PLAY BALL” T-shirt.
