KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Thunderstorms that moved through west and southwest Michigan Wednesday after and evening brought heavy rain, but not the damaging winds as had been originally predicted.
A number of counties in the region were under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch and Tornado Watch at various times until about 7:00 p.m. The northwest portion of Branch County was under a Tornado Warning for 30 minutes beginning around 5:30 p.m. after rotation was spotted on radar.
The entire Village of Colon in St. Joseph County lost power with about 1,800 Consumers Energy customers in the dark.
As of 10:00 p.m. Wednesday only 61 Consumers Energy customers were still without power, 646 in Calhoun County, 569 in Allegan County, 1,190 in St. Joseph County, 618 in Van Buren County, 1,621 in Ingham County, and 1,857 in Clinton County.
Indiana Michigan Power reported 15,000 customers out, with some in southwest Michigan. The majority were in the Muncie and South Bend, Indiana areas.
