LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer joined Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks and House Speaker Matt Hall of Richland to discuss the K-12 Fiscal Year 2026 budget.
Whitmer took part in the talks online Wednesday as she is in Australia on an economic development trip.
All three remain hopeful they will be able to pass a budget for schools by the July 1 deadline, which was set by law after the 2019 budget talks resulted in Republican leaders in the House and Senate sending Whitmer a non-negotiated budget.
She used the Administrative Board to move money around to the dismay of lawmakers.
